How do I view my web site before my domain name has propagated? Print

When you first register or transfer a domain name, it may take up to 3 days for the domain name to start pointing to your website and associated files on our servers.

During the waiting period, you can "pre-propagate" a domain which allows you to view it using a temporary domain until your registered domain name starts resolving correctly. This allows you to test your site and make sure it's ready for when the registered domain name starts resolving. We have set up a special domain for this purpose called webhostingsite.net.

To Setup a Domain Alias:

  1. Log into Helm
  2. Click the "Domains" icon
  3. Choose your domain from the resulting list
  4. Click the "Domain Aliases" icon.
  5. Click the "Add New" button
  6. Enter the following in the space provided:

yourdomain.com.webhostingsite.net (where yourdomain.com is your pending domain name minus the www part).

Once you have set this up, you can browse to the URL http://yourdomain.com.webhostingsite.net

When your domain name has fully resolved, you can then delete this alias and continue on your way!
